Make : Dreyse socket bayonet.

Description: A scarce Pattern 1841 Imperial German issue Dreyse socket bayonet. Tricorn blade stamped to the top flat X over a German Crowned issue mark. The short socket with locking ring is stamped with various German issue markings. The locking ring having a deep notch formed to the end which locks the bayonet on by engaging with the clearing rod when the bayonet is fitted. Typical of the socket bayonets adopted by all nations during the mid Victorian age the Dreyse bayonet was an effective weapon that gave good reach when fitted to the rifle. Like the rifles these bayonets are rarely seen on the market today. In good condition with some light salt and pepper marking across the surface with working locking ring and nice military inspection stamps.
