Old series side lock of converted flintlock form is struck with the East India Co. rampant lion mark with bunn nut retained heavy percussion hammer. Walnut stock with regulation pattern Fusil furniture including spurred trigger guard, rammer and throat pipes, serpentine screw retained side plate and forend cap. The butt stamped to the right side with EIC rampant lion and A2 to the left. Key retained smooth bore barrel with standing rear sight and front sight / bayonet stud is struck with Victorian London commercial proof marks and EIC inspectors stamp to the front of the percussion lump. Correct EIC pattern button head rammer with square section to the front to engage with the EIC sergeants tool issued for field maintenance. Basically a shorter and lighter but better quality version of the issue musket, firing the same ¾” ball designed for issue to NCOs and the men of certain elite units such as Gurkhas and Bengal and Madras light infantry regiments. In good condition with good bore and mechanics, nicely marked stock and barrel to brown patina with age. A scarce EIC fusil in much better condition than most of these that are seen on the market.
