Description: A very good .577” London Armoury Company Pattern 1853 Volunteer 3rd model rifle musket dated 1862. Plain Patt 53 swivel link lock is engraved with a Crowned VR to the tail and 1862 LACo. to the front of the heavy 3rd model hammer. Walnut stock with regulation pattern brass furniture, the forend cap signed LAC, and jag head rammer to the underside is chequered to the wrist with three 3rd model common barrel bands to the forend. Tower military proofed three groove Minnie rifled barrel fitted with ladder rear sight graduated to 1000 yards is struck with LAC factory markings next to the military proofs. A regulation Pattern 1853 rifle manufactured by the famous London Armoury Company for sale to a volunteer soldier or target shooter at the height of the volunteer movements popularity in the UK this rifle has the added feature of a chequered stock ordered by the original owner to give a better grip when shooting in wet or cold conditions. In very good condition with excellent bore and mechanics, a nice sharp stock and much blue / brown finish to the metal work. A fine example of the classic British issue Minnie rifle by the best of the commercial military makers of the Victorian age.
