Make : T Ketland & Co. of London

Calibre : .56"

Mechanism : Flintlock Muzzle Loader

Description: An interesting .56” brass barrelled London flintlock officer’s pistol by T Ketland & Co. of London and Philadelphia PA USA circa 1790, probably made for the US market. Border engraved bridle less pan lock with swan neck cock is engraved below the pan T KETLAND & Co. Walnut stock with brass furniture including two rammer pipes, butt cap and trigger guard with simple rose engraved to the bow and vacant brass escutcheon to the rear. Brass smooth bore barrel struck with Georgian London proof marks is signed LONDON to the top. A typical pistol of the late 18th century with a simple unbridled lock made by Thomas Ketland of Birmingham who was in business in the UK from 1762 until 1833 and as retailers under the management of Thomas Ketland Jr. in Philadelphia USA from 1789 to 1799. The style of pistol and the lock engraving would point to this being a pistol made for export to be sold at Ketlands US retail shop where quality London pistols such as this were highly prized by American gentleman. In good condition with good bore and mechanics, nice sharp clean stock with pleasing patina to the brass work. A very interesting pistol and a scarce export piece to a famous British firm with rare (for the 1700’s) US connections.
